Just in case anyone else openly wept when they discovered the eee-control wasn’t working with Ubuntu Karmic on their EEE netbook, some kind soul has released a patched 0.9.4 version that works like a top. Once I installed it my whirring fans immediately hushed themselves and everything else – device on/off switching, CPU scaling, etc. – works as expected.
Which is, of course, a heck of lot better than manually setting fan speeds via echo 100 >/sys/devices/platform/eeepc/hwmon/hwmon1/pwm1 and praying the CPU doesn’t melt down during cats on keyboards videos. Not that I know anybody that would do something like that.
