		<description>Very nicely done.  We have a similar need.  We need a searchable catalog for our metadata, we don&#039;t want to pay for ESRI, we don&#039;t need the full capabilities (and java) of GeoNetwork.  

I have been starting to hack something similar together using Python, but my strategy has been to rip the XML and stuff it into a database.  It is interesting to see that your performance isn&#039;t bad by just directly reading the XML docs.  Your route definitely gets rid of the need to keep a database in synch with the filesystem.  

I will be interested to follow where you go with this project.  Thanks for letting us know about it.
