Another FAIL. And yet another sign that it is finally getting to be about the right time to make that somewhat messy, yet necessary move over to the land of the free and open source GIS desktop. To h*ll with those proprietary file geodatabases and, SDE in general.

*You* can make the choices about what mix of functionality would be best for your organization, not a vendor. And if something you want ain’t quite there yet, you DO have the ability to push exactly what you need up to the top of the development “to-do” list. It’s called rounding up a few other like-minded organizations who need the same thing and everyone pitches in a small amount of funding to have whatever it is developed to your specifications.
How often do you think you’d be able to get a proprietary commercial software vendor to bake exactly the new tool you needed into their software, and right now (for any amount of money)?
