Getting Rid of Internet Explorer’s Image Toolbar

Ah, Internet Explorer. How do I hate thee? Let me count the ways.

#437 Image Toolbar

The Image Toolbar is the handy toolbar that pops up whenever your mouse hovers over an image, asking if you want to save, print, resize, or email the image to someone - things you will almost certainly never want to do. This jem came packaged with IE 6 and tends to irritate users of mapping sites that have much better things for to do with the map image (pan and zoom for example) than to try to navigate around an annoying pop-up box.

Fortunately, you can spare your users the pain. A simple meta tag in your header will deactivate the Image Toolbar:

<meta http-equiv=”imagetoolbar” content=”no” />

That’s it. No more Image Toolbar on your page.
